The Six States
New England

There are six states that make up the northeast region of the United States known as New England. These states are Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. While all of the New England States share the same seasonal characteristics, they each have their own unique charm as well.

Foxwood's Resort Casino

While adults can enjoy themselves at Connecticut's two well-known casinos (Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Resort Casino), Connecticut also has plenty to offer for families wanting to spend some quality time together. With the Atlantic Ocean running along the East Coast, there is no shortage of beaches to pass the day away. For those looking for a weekend getaway, the Mystic Seaport and Aquarium have plenty to keep the family busy.

Lighthouses abound all up and down the eastern coast of Maine. If you stop into Rockland in the summer, try to make it to the Maine Lobster Festival to get a taste of that fresh Maine lobster. Nature lovers should be sure to head on up to Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, where they can enjoy camping, cycling and hiking, amongst many other outdoor activities.

Mayflower II

The state of Massachusetts beholds a lot of history, and there is plenty to see in the state to showcase these events. Plymouth is where the pilgrims of the Mayflower first settled in New England. Today, visitors to Plimoth Plantation can see what life was like back then. In Boston, walkers of the Freedom Trail can take a historical tour of the American Revolution. Cape Cod is a popular vacation destination, full of beautiful beaches and boutiques.

NH Covered Bridge

New Hampshire

From the Merrimack Valley to the Great North Woods, New Hampshire has plenty to offer to keep anybody in your party happy. The Lakes/White Mountains Regions are home to many popular tourist attractions, including Weirs Beach and the Mount Washington Auto Road. Nascar enthusiasts can enjoy a race at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, and shoppers will love the Settlers' Green Outlet Village in North Conway.

Newport Cliff Walk

Rhode Island

The elegant Newport Mansions are a must see for visitors to the Newport area. Children will love stopping by Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence, which is not only home to a variety of animals, but also houses the Carousel Village. If you're feeling lucky, you can try your hand at the slot machines of Twin River Casino, in Lincoln.

The rolling hills and mountains of Vermont set the most picturesque scene for all the working farms, covered bridges and country stores that it's renowned for. Billings Farm & Museum and The Vermont Country Store are just a couple of examples of country living at its finest that you can sample. You may also catch the annual hot air balloon festivals if you visit in the summer months.
